1940年6月的一个周末，德军即将侵入，英军被迫撤退，驻扎在附近邓科克海滩的法国士兵也想撤离，以便更有效地打击德军。但因为英军需要使用船只，所以法军被迫就地待命。随后的冲突中不少无辜百姓遭殃，一名妇女拒绝离开自己的家园，跟法军互相支持。与此同时，海滩上的战士似乎成了德军飞机的活靶子。。Birdcatcher Esmar and his wife Johanna face eviction from their farm in Gásadalur unless they have a son. Desperation sets in when Johanna gives birth to their third daughter. Pushed to the brink, Johanna is impregnated by another man, a French Captain, and gives birth to a son, known as ‘the birdcatcher’s son’. Everything seems perfect until the French Captain returns.。
