A group of students who are participating in a university's summer science camp are drawn into an incredible quagmire of conflicts, ranging from the relatively simple conflict between an engaging and forthright young teacher and his older manipulative colleague, to a contest pitting political correctness against free scientific inquiry. Despite the murkiness of some of the issues in the latter conflict, the students pitch in enthusiastically on what they believe to be the side of righteousness, and passions rise to fever pitch. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide。北洋时期，上海滩各方势力犬牙交错。有志之士纷纷加入革命党，遭到了北洋军阀的迫害，日本人也协助北洋军阀大肆抓捕革命党。陈真身为爱国热血青年，为师父报仇后，准备重整精武门。革命党杨芸双前往秘密地点与上级领导李国风接头时被叛徒出卖，李国风为掩护杨芸双撤退，被日本人抓住。杨芸双逃跑途中遇到陈真，从日本人手里逃脱。杨芸双请求陈真帮忙救出李国风，陈真因想重振精武门，不想与日本人作对，婉拒后整日教育徒弟习武强身。杨芸双打探到李国风被日本人关押在秘密监狱，而石川凉介用尽酷刑也没能拿到想要的情报。杨芸双再次找上陈真，求其帮忙，陈真深知日本人的凶残，也明白不能独善其身，决定救人。次日，陈真被日本人带到监狱，并被石川凉介要求参与擂台比武。擂台上，陈真与石川凉介打的难分伯仲，几番殊死较量后，陈真打败了石川。同时，杨芸双众人也攻入监狱，两方混战在一起……。云歌儿被迫嫁给明王并为其治病，二人的生活篇章也逐渐拉开序幕。。
