Old Sodhi and young Amar begin to bond and Sodhi accompanies Amar to Burma (Myanmar) for an assignment from BBC to shoot a documentary on the students against the Militar...。老邱退休在家照顾年迈的母亲。儿子亮子创业失败打起出售四合院的主意。老邱以四合院养鸽子为理由拒绝亮子。亮子与好友想尽办法将鸽子弄丢，让老邱死心。后来从父亲口中得知养鸽子的原因是为了阿尔兹海默症的奶奶，机缘巧合台湾的阿珍和爷爷无意中发现混在自家鸽子里的九天，从脚环中得知九天来自北京，引发爷爷对家乡的思念之情。鸽子九天在台湾再次起飞，这一刻起，它归巢的天性指引着它踏上了回家的历程，一路上的艰辛引起了两岸人民对回家的渴望......。
